We view the practice of medicine as a calling.
We follow a path of education that feels so certain and precise.
Then we realize that our career is filled with uncertainty and a lack of autonomy.
The work we want to accomplish is overshadowed by the job: the demands, the bureaucratic tasks, the checkboxes.
Where is the balance?
Why do we feel disconnected? Unfulfilled?
What can we do in order to look back and have no regrets?
Several years ago, a shift began for me when I was fortunate to have stumbled my way into a mindfulness class for physicians. After a couple sessions, I was noticing my body was less tense, I was sleeping better, and overall, I felt less stressed. I couldn’t believe something so "simple" could make such a big difference in my quality of life. I was determined to learn more about sharing these skills with my colleagues and other physicians.
This was the beginning of my journey to shift my attention to making a difference in physicians’ lives. I became a certified mindfulness teacher. I completed training in Self-Compassion for Healthcare Communities. I co-lead a project sponsored by the American Medical Association (AMA) and the Washington State Medical Association (WSMA) in order to determine barriers to well-being, improve communication and teamwork, and decrease physician burnout. More recently, I became a master certified physician development coach.
These combined experiences of being a mother, wife, pediatrician, mindful & self-compassion teacher, wellness champion, and life coach have helped me recognize the importance of joy and fulfillment in our everyday moments. With curiosity, empathy, and deep listening, there is a space for uniqueness and acceptance. With creativity, collaboration and inspiration, there is a place for celebration and ground-breaking solutions. When we connect and motivate one another, we are able to appreciate our values and utilize our strengths.
I am committed to advocating, teaching, and inspiring. I am dedicated to provide a safe space for exploration, discovery and creating action. I would be honored to be a part of your journey in maximizing your personal and professional potential. Please reach out if you would like to learn more or work together on getting the results you want and deserve.
